I'm an ex-pat Englishman, who has been living and fishing in the US for the last seven years. I started my angling career at the age of 11, catching all sorts of fish in the ponds, lakes and rivers of Sussex in South-Eastern England. I then graduated to the "match fishing circuit" in Southern and Central England. I enjoyed some success with a couple of good local teams in the 80's and 90's; but never lost the enjoyment of fishing for big fish. I also spent a lot of time in Scandinavia in the 80's and 90's, helping to popularise both match-fishing and UK-style "Specimen Hunting" techniques.
I discovered Carp in Wisconsin in 1998; and eventually settled here in 2000. I also fish for other species (I particularly enjoy Big Brown, Steelhead and Salmon fishing); and I've contributed to several local fishing magazines and TV shows. I've become infamous for converting Walleye and Bass Anglers to Carp-fishing over the last 7 years, I run a very limited (you could call it Elite!) guide service for a variety of UK-style fishing techniques that are very effective in WI; and I've just started a blogsite for catch-and-release fishing in NE WI: http://newfishing.blogspot.com/
I'm organizing the WI Carp Championships and running as a contestant in the American Carp League this year to:
1. Popularize the great sport of catch-and-release Carp Fishing
2. Support the American Carp Society's positive focus on Carp as a true Sport Fish
3. Show WI anglers that Carp Fishing is fun, challenging, and very exciting. |
