I am originally from Illinois, but right now I live with my wife in Grand Forks, North Dakota, while she finishes her Ph.D., degree in Education. I guess my story is similar to a lot of other anglers. My Grandfather took me fishing before I was even two years old and I have had the bug ever since. I graduated from Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois with a degree in Biology and this degree has given me the opportunity to work on some graduate level Fishery Biology studies at SDSU in South Dakota and at Auburn University in Alabama. I read about the European style of carp fishing in 1994, but did not really start using European methods until 1998. In 2005, I updated my equipment to European carp angling standards to fish the WCC. Now I guess I am a regular “European Carp Fishing Style” convert.
I started fishing bank style tournaments in my hometown in Virden, Illinois, at the Burlington Reservoir (AKA “The Tank”), when I was only 13 years old. I have won the hometown tournament 11 times in 32 chances, mostly thanks to common carp. This tournament addiction led me to decide to take a chance and fish the WCC in New York, back in June of 2005. Last year, I started fishing professional level catfish tournaments, but decided I like the bank fishing tournament style better and so this year I am going to devote most of my fishing time to common carp. I am hoping to fish the Tournament of Champions this year and next year as part of my quest to return to the WCC in 2009.
